Buddhism tour circuit to woo more visitors

Karnataka, India -- Karnataka tourism is looking at exploring Buddhist sites in the state for its religious tour circuit. Till now, Jain sites have been much promoted in the religious circuit, and with the new initiative, the department hopes to bring in increased domestic and foreign travellers.

The department plans to promote the Tara Bhagavati temple in Shiralakoppa, Koliwad and Dambal in Gadag district, apart from monuments in historical Aihole in Bijapur district for the tourism initiative.

The first International Buddhist Festival, ‘The Inner Path’, organised by The Network for Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) and the Devki Foundation, in association with Asoka Mission, slated from April 27 (Friday) to May 1 (Tuesday), 2012 was held at Azad Bhawan, Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi.

The festival featured Buddhist Cinema, Culture, Heritage, Art, Literature, Photography, & Discourses.

Under the initiative of Buddh Jyoti Foundation, in association with Asoka Mission and others, Trans Himalayan Losar 2012 Festival was held on Saturday, 25th February 2012 at Indrapastha Park, New Delhi.

In honour of traditional New Year, the LO-SAR 2012 Festival started with a World Peace Prayer, led by His Holiness Gaden Tripa, Supreme Head of Gelugpa Order, and Sherab Ling monks, which was followed by Himalayan cultural show, sporting events, art, music, food and exhibition all day in the Park.

Whereas Buddhists all over the world recognize India as the country where the Buddha Dharma originated with the Sambodhiprapti or Enlightenment of Buddha at Bodhgaya, and where he taught the Dharma for 45 years;
